Friends are a valuable thing

As you can see this birdhouse needed some work.  It was 13 years old and I remember putting it up when my daughter, Katie was born.  It was a beautiful addition to our yard and we loved to watch the blue birds build their homes inside.  Well after 13 years it needed some work.

When you own a business you get to know your clients.  At least I hope you do.  One of our very loyal clients and good friend, Ken S. is a retired veterinarian but also woodworker.  I brought the bird house into our facility and asked him what he thought.  He said he thought he could fix it.  I was so excited because I missed seeing it in our yard.  And so did the blue birds.



WOW!!!!!!!!!!  What a difference.  Thank you Ken.  Not only does our business thank you for your loyalty but more importantly thank you for being our friend.

Conquered!!! The Tour De Cure-62 miles.

This past Sunday, the Enhancing Health Team conquered the 62 mile course in the fight against diabetes.  The weather, route, and volunteers surpassed our expectations.  We had a great time and can't wait till next year.  If you would like to join us we would love to have you.  As a TEAM we raised over $2700.00, surpassing our goal by more than $700.00!! A BIG thank you to all those who donated for this great cause.  Together we can defeat diabetes.

PS Way to go Tina.  We knew you could do it.

Almond & Pistachio Power Shake-must have before or after a workout!

Get your motor running before or after a workout with this powerful shake.  Almonds are a great source of Vitamin E-that matters to your muscles because Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant that can help prevent free-radicle damage after your workouts.  And recent scientific evidence indicates that pistachios, when eaten as a part of a healthy diet, can increase the levels of antioxidants in the blood of adults with high cholesterol.

So take a few minutes and try this wonderful shake.  You will be glad you did.

1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
20 unsalted roasted almonds
1 scoop of vanilla whey protein powder
1/4 cup of roasted pistachios
1 tsp. organic blue agave syrup
1 cup of ice

In a blender, combine almond milk, almonds, powder, pistachios and agave.  Process for 1 minute.  Add ice and blend till smooth.
Calories: 520; Protein: 33g; Carbs: 15g; Fat: 28g (good fat); Sat. fat: 3g.

BTW this Sunday my TEAM and I will be cycling 62 miles in the fight against diabetes.  So far we have raised over $2600.00 for the American Diabtes Association!!!!

Another Success Story-Great Job Kate!!!

In June of 2009 I had the pleasure of meeting Kate.  She was referred to me by her doctor, Dr. Spencer Rozin, for a fitness assessment.  After reviewing her results and talking about her goals it was time to make a change. 

As Kate said, "When I reached a big birthday milestone I realized I’d better address my physical fitness.  My hobby is training my dogs for AKC obedience competitions so I have to be able to keep up with active, athletic Golden Retrievers.  This requires balance, strength and flexibility.

After flunking a fitness evaluation at my doctor’s office I signed up to train with Steve Collett at Enhancing Health twice a week.  Many months later I started the Take Shape For Life nutrition program as well.  Now I am stronger, more agile and 26 pounds lighter and 10% leaner.  This leads to smaller blue jeans!  More importantly; I have found that I’m more confident of my physical abilities.

Here are two of my favorite accomplishments.  One day fairly early into my training I realized I was running down the stairs.  When was the last time you did that?  Also, it still amazes me that 10 minutes on the elliptical machine isn’t all that difficult when 2 minutes used to leave me sweating and breathless with legs of rubber. 

Of course I’m not actually getting any younger but I do feel as if I inhabit  a younger more capable body.   Feeling that I look darn good is fun too.  Thanks, Steve!
